I stopped buying from Shein — so should you.
With the rise of online shopping, more prominent in the past decade, many have turned to stores such as Shein.
Shein is a fast-fashion company based in China, founded in 2012 by Chris Xu, a billionaire with a net worth of $10 Billion (25/1/23 Forbes). He built the fashion brand empire known for its cheap prices and constantly ever-changing styles to keep up with the trends. Shein also acquired their sister brand Romwe back in 2014, with both having identical listings across both sites. They are ‘cross-border fast fashion companies’.
Their main selling point is that the clothing is cheap, very very cheap. I used to buy from both sites (not in large quantities, just when I needed clothes) and always wondered how their prices were so low. They constantly had sales where their garments were a couple of pounds, even as little as 99p in some instances. There were also always discount codes and free shipping over a very little amount.
You just have to think, do they actually make any money with prices that low?
